National Competitions

The National Competitions are now under way at Leamington and club members are involved in a number of events.

Last week saw both the Women’s Singles and Women’s Junior Singles take place and we had a competitor in both. In the Junior Singles Laura Holden lost in the quarter-finals where she, unfortunately. lost to Katherine Rednall from Suffolk. Our other competitor, Stef Branfield, in the Women’s Singles reached the semi-final but was beaten by Natalie Chestney from Devon.

Also taking place last week was the Senior Men’s Fours and we were represented by Andy Mace, Dave Brightman, Alan Bradley and Maurice Davis.  They were finally defeated in the quarter-finals by a rink from Durham

This week Laura Holden played in the Junior Ladies Pairs where she, and her partner Rebecca McMillan, from Victoria, were, unfortunately, defeated in the quarter-finals.

Stef Branfield also skipped a rink in the Somerset Walker Cup Team – a two rink inter county competition - who beat Kent in the final after a very close match.

The finals continue until Sunday 3rd September.

Also congratulations to Andy Mace who has reached the Final of the Two Wood Competition.

Both of the above  now qualify for the National Finals at Leamington.

Further success for the ladies at the County semi-finals when Stef Branfield secured a place in the Final of the Champions of Champions and the National Finals.

(Message from Keith Bristow)

The next Club Night will be on Monday (No, really!) 21 August, 2017. There won't be one on 28 August, as that is Bank Holiday Monday, but you will be more than welcome to use the green for a roll-up; its just that there will be nothing organised. There will be Club Nights on 4, 11 and 18 September, but these might be Indoors, depending on the weather and how dark it is, which will give those of you playing Indoors in the winter the chance to prepare yourselves.
